A History of Lacrosse at CCNY
Lacrosse took root at City College in 1887 when Harvey Mitchell, an academic tutor, introduced the game to the student body.

This work is dedicated to all those players, coaches and staff members of the City College of New York who dedicated themselves to the game of lacrosse at "City". They labored against all odds to keep the game and the spirit alive at the college for over one hundred years in spite of all obstacles such as lack of funding, inadequate facilities, lack of a proper playing field, poor equipment, and lack of support from the student body.
In spite of all the limitations of playing lacrosse at City College and the many losing seasons compiled by the teams over the years, the lacrosse alumni can hold theior heads high as they have excelled in many fields of endeavor such as science, engineering, medicine, law, academia, military service, business, the arts and just about any phase of life. To a man they all say that playing lacrosse was a key step in their climbing the ladder of success.
May all the sacrifices of the past century have not been in vain and that someday City College lacrosse will return to varsity status and the rewards of the competition on the lacrosse field will once again enrich the lives of future scholar-athletes.
